Belles, Bags, & Bubbles Event A Success

Belles, Bags, & Bubbles Event A Success

Every year for the past three years, NAWIC Guam hosts its annual fundraising event, Belles, Bags & Bubbles. This is one of NAWIC Guam’s premiere networking events. Women and men come together for a night filled with fun, drinks, food, and bags! This year, the event committee chairs, Ms. Monique Baysingar, and Ms. Barbie Agahan worked together with the ladies of NAWIC to round up donations of new and gently used bags and purses to be auctioned off at the event. All proceeds raised from the sales of the bags are used to fund two of  NAWIC Guam’s community outreach programs: Block Kids, and the NAWIC Guam Scholarship. Each of these community outreach programs supports NAWIC’s mission to help increase awareness of women in the construction industry.

This year’s Belles, Bags & Bubbles event was held on December 3 at the Nissan Showroom. A big thank you to our friends at Nissan, especially Mr. Ron Castro for offering the showroom to host this fabulous event. It was a great turnout with the support and participation from the island’s construction industry partners and local vendors that provided food, donated door prizes, in-kind services, pre-ticket sales, and in-kind donations. Because of their gracious contributions, NAWIC Guam was able to raise over $5,000. NAWIC Guam would like to recognize and extend our sincerest gratitude for the contributions made by our sponsors and vendors to ensure the success of this event. Thank you to all our guests who attended and made the purse auction a fun highlight of the event. NAWIC Guam appreciates all your support. We look forward to next year’s event and we hope to see more new faces. Check out photos from this year’s event.

I decided to be a great runner, determined to win every race,

To bask in the glory, to tell all my story, to make sure the world knew my face.

For years I had dreamt of the conquest, gold metals and fortune and fame.

So I gave up my leisure, I sacrificed pleasure, and worked every day at my game.

The Builder

The Builder

I saw them tearing a building down

A team of men in my hometown.

With a heave and a ho and a yes yes yell,

they swung a beam and a sidewall fell.

And I said to the foreman, “Are these men skilled?”

“Like the ones you’d use if you had to build?”

And he laughed and said, “Oh no, indeed…

the most common labor is all I need…

for I can destroy in a day or two

what takes a builder ten years to do.”

So I thought to myself as I went on my way…

Which one of these roles am I willing to play?

Am I one who is tearing down as I carelessly make my way around?

Or am I one who builds with care, in order to make the world a

little better… because I was there?

Bernie Valencia from Matson Navigation, speaker for NAWIC Guam July Membership meeting, shared an inspirational video of Mayor Billy Kenoi of Hawaii’s Island. According to Mayor Billy Kenoi, “Love, aloha — it doesn’t cost any money and it doesn’t take any effort. And the most amazing part? The more you give, the more you get and the more you give, the more you have … and you can never ever run out.”

Opening Doors

Opening Doors

The fairer sex is what she’s called, a struggle to begin.  For in a world where man is king, its difficult to win. But tenderness and nurturing are not to be misled.  A strength and power to rule the world lie in her pretty head.

Sometimes her magic’s camouflaged, she doesn’t know i’ts there.  Caught up in daily mindless task, to dream she doesn’t dare.  Adversities and challenge are always in her way.  Any yet she knows it’s possible to change her life one day.

Every stone she stumbles on and every time she falls, it puts where she’s meant to be-appears like blocks and walls.  And yet it’s another door in spite of what it seems.  A lesson waiting to be learned, a gateway of her dreams.

Sometimes she must remind herself, the sun comes up each day.  And even in the darkest night the moon will light her way.  No rainbow comes without the storm and peace may come with wars.  Yet in her heart she knows she’ll win if she keeps opening doors.
